snow day #4
Is today Friday the 13th and someone didn't tell me????
Leaving Costco this morning after getting new tires. There are 2 cars in front of me at the stop sign and one of them is an older, larger Ford truck. It slides into the intersection just barely missing traffic going the other way (they don't have a stop sign). The next smaller car goes with no problem. I inch my way down and then start to slide. *(#&$%^%!!!!!!! Barely miss the car coming the other way and am several feet into the intersection. Car behind me isn't paying attention. WHAM!!!! Luckily it's a Ford Taurus and is lower. We pull off to the side. My bumper is pushed down and the left side is pushed in. The tail hitch plug thing (where you plug in to get power for lights for what you're towing) is bent but seems okay. And the "G" for "Georgia" on my hitch is broken.
We exchange info - didn't call the cops. Figured that they had their hands busy. She says that she would rather pay for it out of pocket than deal with the insurance company. It doesn't look like she's got any damage but her hood is covered with snow. Get home and call Ford. They tell me without looking at the vehicle and assuming that it IS only the bumper and the hitch plug thing, it would be $700 to $1000. So, now the truck is on its way to Ford to get an estimate so that I can call her to see what she wants to do. I'm not sure that she knows that it would be that much but maybe it's better than having your rates go up.
The ironic thing is that I went to get new tires to be safer on the roads and get rear-ended before even leaving the parking lot.....

Luckily we got a phone call around dinner time last nite. The roads in our neighborhood are UGLY! Need to venture out today or tomorrow to get more stuff from the grocery store just in case. They said that tomorrow nite and Sunday is going to be BAD with high winds (50 to 60 mph gusts) and power outages will be likely. Nice!
I still need to head to Costco to get new tires put on the truck, too.
