the indignity of it all
Bought some soy formula to see if maybe it was the dairy in my diet (obvious ones are 1 or 2 slices of American cheese and a Klondike bar). Seemed to help a tad bit but he was still throwing up a bit and having these sort of scary gagging moments. Saw Dr. L this morning. She says that he's definitely got acid reflux and put him on Prevacid cause the Zantac doesn't work for a lot of infants/kids. Good thing we got some samples first (and we have good insurance) to see. I asked if it could be my diet and she said that obvious ones would be dairy (see above), eggs (great...what I eat in the mornings), nuts (also eat almonds for a quick snack), and shellfish (haven't had that in a long time). So, it's experimentation time to see if it's any or none of the above.
Also mentioned that he has stinky BMs and seems to have trouble passing them cause there's lot of leg kicking, etc. She said that some infants have tight bottoms and the BMs won't pass unless there's a lot of pressure behind it and since it sits for a bit (to get the pressure build up), it starts to stink. Well, to quote South Park's take on Steve Irwin (may he rest in peace), shove a finger up his butthole. Sure enough she said that it was tight and should be "fixed" now. Poor guy pooped and was VERY unhappy.
He's now 12 lbs 5.2 oz.
So, on we chug....

Oh gosh.. first thing in the morning and I read about poor Jake having a finger up his butt! Hope he's doing much better now... and hope you've managed to get some rest...
poor little man can'tseem to catch a break. Keep your chin up. Sned ing positive thoughts your way
sorry to hear that. my baby has reflux and prevacid worked quite well. one thing tho, prevacid contains lactose/dairy so if a baby's allergic to dairy then it's not the best Rx.
