When we first moved into the house, there were several open/empty spots in the front bed. Then as "spring" continued, these greenish/reddish plants started to grow. Had no idea what they were. Then buds appeared and then finally started to open.
We have peonies!! Not sure what type/kind they are but they're beautiful. The blooms are so big/heavy that they tip the plant over. One plant has 2 buds (the one that got a late start and hasn't opened yet) and the other 2 plants have 3 opened flowers on them. Not sure if they can or usually have more but I can see why people love them so much. Just wish that we had different colored ones. LOL!
These pictures are of them in their early stages of opening. I've got fully opened ones on the camera still.
Also have what appear to be hydrangeas but no idea what kind or color they are either. Hopefully they'll be beautiful because the ones on the side of the driveway are in an awkward place (very hard to open the car doors with them RIGHT there) and will probably get moved. But if they're not beautiful may just do a free listing on craigslist to get rid of them. Someone else may enjoy them, right?

Love Love Love peonies. I have three in my back yard. Two doubles - fuschia and light pink and one sing which is white and GORGEOUS (it is the flower that Syd is holding in the sepia picture on my blog). As they grow and mature they will get more and more blooms. And you know how they bloom - right? The ants crawling on them eat off the green covering and waalaa - peony. You should see Japanese Tree Peonies - absolutely stunning!
And Jacob - OMG - he is so dang cute.
Those are GORGEOUS! I miss those from up north! Don't see them down here.
